Straighten Teeth Without Braces

Braces are often the first thing that comes to mind when patients think about straightening teeth. While they are an effective orthodontic treatment that has worked for many patients over the years, advancements in technology and treatment options have allowed patients to choose other effective methods as well, such as Invisalign®. Dr. Brad Haines and Dr. Steven White, along with the team at White and Haines in Cornelius, NC can help you understand the benefits of aligner treatment.

The Case for Invisalign vs. Metal Braces

Invisalign® treatment involves using a series of clear aligners that progressively move the teeth into their desired position. There are many benefits to this type of treatment:

  • Virtually undetectable: The aligners are clear, which means they are virtually invisible to other people. Most will not even notice that you are wearing them.
  • Easy to use: Just wear the aligners for the designated amount of time each day. You can take the aligners out to eat and to clean your teeth. You get a new aligner every few weeks to move your teeth into place, and you do not have to worry about brackets or wires breaking.
  • Eat your favorite foods: There are few restrictions on what you can eat during Invisalign® treatment while braces come with quite the list. You can enjoy your favorite foods while using aligners – just be sure to take them out while eating and put them back in after you brush your teeth.
  • Shorter treatment: Metal braces often require years of treatment. In many cases, aligner treatment lasts 12 to 18 months. Much of the time, patients see faster treatment with the aligners.

The Good Candidate

Not everyone is an ideal candidate for aligners. Braces are still effective if you do not qualify for Invisalign®. A consultation with Dr. White or Dr. Haines can help you understand if you can meet the requirements for aligner treatment or if another option may be better for you.
